On a blustery but dry July day a number of OC's and ex-staff attended the 23rd annual golf day, playing for the Donald Robathan Trophy at Nizels Golf Club, Hildenborough. The numbers were down on previous years but a new name was added to the Trophy as Paul Sorenson just edged out Steve Smith with 35 stableford points.
The day began with coffee and bacon rolls with the re-acquaintance of old friends and finished with the presentation of the trophy during tea after some very competitive golf had been played.
Other notable prize winners were Jeremy Barham and Steve Smith who won nearest the pin competitions and a special mention should be made of Tim Wilson, the oldest Old Cranbrookian on the day, who scored a creditable 18 points.
Players : Simon Anthonisz (H 1970), Jeremy Barham (C 1960), Thomas Beney (A 1996), Andy Coombe-Jones (H 1972), Mike Doran (C 1967), Richard Fisher (R 1972), Rob Hillier (A 1990), Jeremy Philpot (A 1976), Alex Presnall (ex Staff), Steve Smith (H 1990), Paul Sorenson (ex Staff), Ed Stearns (1990) John Taylor (A 1967), Tim Wilson (CS 1950), Dick Winch (A 1974).
Next year the OCA Golf Day will be held at the same course on Monday 10th July, 2017. The arrangements will be slightly different as any OC who wants to attend may choose to apply individually or raise their own 3 or 4 ball team, which will be welcomed.
